Young people from Blaenau Gwent designed, made and modelled their own outfits from preloved clothing at the Blaenau Gwent Pride Fashion Show at Bedwellty Park.
The show, held on the evening of 25 September, featured members of the Youth Service’s LGBTQ+ group based at Abertillery Learning Community.
It was hosted by Pride Cymru Ambassador Dr Bev, who also gave a performance after the show and spoke about the importance of representation, visibility and creating spaces where people can feel accepted for who they are.
The audience included friends, family members, allies and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The event was funded by the Pride Cymru Grassroots Pride Fund and the Youth Service Grant, and Chloe’s Community Cupboard in Tredegar donated clothing for the project.
It builds on the first Blaenau Gwent Pride celebrations, which were held last year.
Mrs Greeves, of Abertillery Learning Community, said: “A wonderful night was had by parents/carers/staff and organisers. I am extremely proud of all of the models but especially our ALC pupils. The time and dedication they spent making their costumes and expressing themselves through make up, it was an absolute privilege to be part of this evening.”
Councillor Chris Smith, Blaenau Gwent’s Equality Champion, attended the show. He said: “It was a privilege to attend the Blaenau Gwent Pride Fashion Show and see our young people expressing themselves with such confidence, creativity and pride. Events like this send a powerful message that everyone deserves to feel accepted, valued and celebrated for who they are. I would like to thank all of those involved in organising the event and look forward to seeing Pride in Blaenau Gwent continue to grow in the years ahead.”
