Youth hub plans for Bridgend town centre

Bridgend County Borough Council is looking into the provision of a new youth hub in Bridgend town centre.

Initial plans involve a multi-purpose facility at Evergreen Hall, next to the council’s Civic Offices. Run in partnership between the local authority’s Youth Development, 16 plus and Youth Justice Services, activities offered onsite will range from training and  classes for young people aged 11 to 25 years old, and youth club provision a couple of weekday evenings for all young people in the local community that want to attend.

As part of the plans, young people are being invited to have their say on what they would like to see at the youth hub, including any specific equipment they would want to use, and any help or support services they would find it useful to access.

The plans are being developed around young people with some internal works being carried out to the building later this year.

We’re looking forward to the provision opening up and being able to offer a facility specifically for young people. With the impact that the coronavirus pandemic has had on children and young people, a facility like this is now more important than ever to help support their mental health and wellbeing.

We would encourage young people to have their say on everything from how the new youth hub is used to what it looks like inside.

Councillor Nicole Burnett, Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help

Bridgend Youth Council’s Mayor Xander Payne said: “It was brilliant to recently have a quick look around Evergreen Hall and see the bare bones of what will become the new Youth Hub for Bridgend.

“I believe it will really benefit the young people of the local area by providing a new space, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
