Registration for the Nos Galan 2021: The Virtual Challenge is closed, after a staggering 1,500 people from all walks of life secured their spots!

Each successful applicant would have received a unique registration number, make sure you keep yours handy as it will be used to cross match against evidence you have completed the challenge.

Similar to the 2020 event, there will be no separate race categories or minimum times needed. You simply complete 5k between December 1 and 31 2021.

Walk it, run or jog it. Hit the tracks and trails of a country park or use the treadmill in your local gym. Take steps towards the 5k at home or use your previous personal best Nos Galan race time to compete against yourself.

Those who successfully complete Nos Galan 2021: The Virtual Challenge will need to provide evidence of completion, via photo or screen grab of a fitness app, mobile devices or treadmill to secure their medal and T-shirt.

Participants can also share their personal inspiration and Nos Galan the Virtual Challenge   – stories with the rest of the Rhondda Cynon Taf Community, so everyone can share in the legendary spirit of the road races over on our social media channels

Cllr Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Huge thanks to everyone who has shown their support for l Nos Galan 2021: The Virtual Challenge.

“These are very different and challenging times and it will be nice to once again end the year with a reminder of our community resilience and strength.

“It’s a shame we once again can’t get together in Mountain Ash on New Year’s Eve for an evening of races and family fun, but I think we all agree staying healthy and safe and protecting each other is much more important. Good luck to all those who have signed up for the challenge.”

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Chair of the Nos Galan Committee, added: “Nos Galan first went virtual last year in the face of unprecedented times and it was more successful than we could have hoped for, thanks to the enthusiasm of entrants.

“Thank you to those who signed up this year and we look forward to celebrating with you as you complete your own Nos Galan 2021 challenge – whether you run it all in one go and beat a personal best time, or you take it one step at time.”

Nos Galan 2021: The Virtual Challenge can be completed all at once or in stages between Dec 1 and Dec 31, 2021. Evidence of completion will need to be submitted between Dec 1, 2021 and Jan 14, 2022 via the Nos Glan website www.nosgalan.co.uk
