Maesmawr Hall hotel, located on the River Severn in the Welsh county of Powys, has changed hands after being under the ownership of John Garner and his partner Nigel Humphryson for over 10 years. Advised by Colliers’ Hotels Agency team, this landmark property, dating back to 1535, was acquired at the asking price by private owners, John and Lisa Brant.

The property serves as an ideal destination for business meetings and wedding functions. The hotel features a bar, lounge, and meticulously decorated bedrooms, showcasing elaborate fireplaces, exposed beams, and intricately carved timberwork.

John and Lisa Brant, the new owners, bring fresh energy and a wealth of hospitality experience to Maesmawr. Having spent the last 12 years in Spain, running another hospitality business said: “We are thrilled to bring our perspective and expertise to Maesmawr. Our background in hospitality fuels our commitment to transforming this wonderful property into a premier retreat destination, offering guests a rejuvenating and enriching experience.”

John Garner, the former owner of the hotel, commented: “After 12 fulfilling years at the helm of Maesmawr, we are ready to embark on a new chapter in our lives. Having invested significant time and resources in enhancing the property, we now look forward to retiring and passing the baton to the new owners. We trust that they will continue to cherish and care for this special place, just as we have.” Talking about his experience with Colliers he also added, “Peter’s professionalism, expertise, and unwavering support throughout the business sale process has been invaluable.”

Peter Brunt, director in the Hotels Agency team at Colliers, who managed the sale added: “It’s been a pleasure working with John Garner and Nigel Humphryson on this sale and I am pleased to have secured the successful handover of this business. I’m confident that the fresh perspective the new owners bring, combined with their hospitality experience, will ensure the continued success of this establishment.”
