The Summer Holidays are almost in reach and parents across Wales will soon be trying to find a wide range of activities to keep their children entertained for a long six weeks in the sun!
Fortunately, you don’t have to travel far for something fun to do this Summer, with loads of family-friendly activities taking place across the city, as well as a wide range of parks and playgrounds to choose from – plus miles of golden sands right on our doorstep.

1. Pedal around Singleton Park Boating Lake in a Car or on a Dragon
Singleton Park is a lovely park to explore in the Summer and its Boating Lake, situated at the bottom of Sketty Lane, is definitely worth its own trip. Hire a car, dragon or swan pedalo to explore the lake and you’ll see fish, ducks, geese – and even a few dinosaurs! There’s also a crazy golf course beside the lake which little ones will love.
2. Celebrate Swansea’s maritime history at the Swansea Sea Festival
A FREE weekend of “adventure, culture and coastal celebration” is set to take over Swansea’s Maritime Quarter this August. With sailing trips, live music and family-friendly activities and displays to enjoy across Museum Park, the National Waterfront Museum, The Pumphouse, The Queens, The Swigg, The Copper Jack and Swansea Amphitheatre, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

3. Catch a film at the Outdoor Cinema
Don’t miss catching a film at an outdoor cinema in Swansea this summer! The Swansea Food & Drink Festival is back again this year with a huge range of independent traders serving food and drinks along Oxford Street, Princess Way and Portland Street.

6. Cruise down the River Tawe on the Copper Jack
Hop aboard the recently refurbished Copper Jack for an informative yet entertaining boat trip along the River Tawe. Trips are run by dedicated volunteers and depart from beside the Helwick Lightship in Swansea Marina, returning around 90 minutes later to the same spot.

7. Explore Plantasia Tropical Zoo
Home to more than 50 different species including leopard cats, crocodiles, turtles, meerkats, parrots, iguanas and axolotls, to name a few, Plantasia Tropical Zoo is a mini tropical rainforest in a city centre retail park and a great day-out whatever the weather.
8. Splash around at Wales’ largest indoor waterpark, the LC Swansea
With a wavepool, slides and water attractions, the swimming pool at the LC Swansea is perhaps its most popular attraction, but the leisure centre is also home to a gym, sports courts, a climbing wall, children’s soft play area and a small spa.
9. Tap your feet to live music at AMPLITUDE mini festival
Musicians will be taking to the stage at Swansea Amphitheatre on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August for two-day AMPLITUDE festival, with music performances across a range of genres including indie-rock, jazz, pop and folk.
10. Go back in time at Oystermouth Castle
Oystermouth Castle is a Norman stone castle in Mumbles with incredible views across Swansea Bay and is well worth a trip! You can explore the Drum Towers, Gatehouse, The South Keep and The North Keep and relax in the castle grounds.
Plus, the castle is hosting a wide range of events this summer including the Prince and Princesses Day (Monday 31st August) and Outdoor Theatre shows: As you Like It, (Tuesday 25th August), Pirates of Penzance (Wednesday 26th August) and Pinocchio (Thursday 27th August).
11. Paddleboard at the Lliw Reservoir
You can hire a standup paddleboard (SUP) or book a SUP lesson and take to the water at Lliw Reservoir every day of the Summer holidays. There’s also kayaking, bush craft, climbing and archery to get stuck into.
12. Chug along Swansea Promenade on the Swansea Bay Land Rider Train
Perhaps the most reliable train journey in South Wales! The Swansea Bay Land Rider Train is a brilliant family-friendly land train which takes people on a short, scenic journey along Swansea Promenade throughout the Spring and Summer months.
13.Admire the views and spot the wildlife on a boat trip off Gower
Join Gower Coast Adventures for a two-hour boat trip exploring the beautiful Gower coast and enjoy the gorgeous views and amazing sea life.
If you’re lucky, you could even spot Atlantic grey seals, porpoises and common dolphins!
14. Take-on the challenges at Ninja Warrior UK Swansea
A particularly good option if the weather turns, Ninja Warrior UK Swansea has a wide range of obstacles and an assault course and encourages youngsters to use their “ninja skills” to climb, balance, jump and swing – perfect if they’ve got lots of energy to burn!
15. Be a tourist in your own city
Even if you’ve lived in Swansea for years, there’s sure to be lots you don’t know about our great city! Both Swansea Museum and the National Waterfront Museum have a wide range of interesting exhibits guaranteed to teach you lots about Swansea’s colourful history, a visit to them is a great FREE day out.
16. Try for a hole-in-one at Southend Gardens mini golf
Close to restaurants, shops and amenities, Southend Gardens is a lovely community park in Mumbles with a free children’s playground and affordable mini golf course.
17. Build a sandcastle at the beach
When you’ve lived in Swansea a long time, it’s so easy to take our gorgeous landscape for granted! But when was the last time you built a sandcastle on Swansea beach? Or ventured further afield to the beautiful beaches in Gower?
This Summer, why not head to the beach and enjoy a plodge in the sea – and see who can build the best, or biggest, sandcastle?
18. Try a new sport… footgolf!
If you’re looking to do a bit of a different activity with the family this Summer then why not try footgolf?
Located on Mumbles Road in Blackpill, Swansea Footgolf is an 18-course golf-course, but instead of hitting a golf ball with your putter, you kick a football with your foot!
19. Visit a fairytale garden with Rapunzel tower and Japanese bridge
A real hidden gem, Clyne Gardens might be just off a busy main road – but a stroll around will have you thinking you’re in a fairytale.
The picturesque park is full of beautiful plants and flowers and several attractions that children will love discovering, including a mini Rapunzel-esque stone tower, a charming Japanese bridge, and a striking Grade II-listed manor, now a private residence.
