Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet has today (11th November 2020) unanimously approved plans to install 20 new electric vehicle charge points at its buildings.
The new charge points will be installed at the Council’s three main sites: Penallta House, Tredomen House and Tiryberth Depot. The fast charge units will enable the Council to begin introducing electric vehicles into its fleet.
Cabinet members approved to install electric units directly at existing buildings in order to minimise grid connection costs. Funding for the installation has been agreed through a capital funding allocation of £240,500 from Capital Earmarked Reserves and the allocation of £49,500 from a Carbon Reduction Initiative budget, approved by Cabinet previously. An application for additional funding will also be submitted by the Council to the Office of Low Emissions Vehicles (OLEV) for £10,000 to support the project.
Cllr Sean Morgan, the Council’s Deputy Leader, said “The Council is already making significant progress in delivering its commitment to lower carbon emissions. These next steps will enable us to roll out the introduction of electric vehicles within our fleet, to go even further in creating a greener and sustainable future.”
