A new children’s home has opened in Nelson to provide care and support for children and young people in Caerphilly county borough.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced the opening of Tirnant Children’s Home, its newest home for children and young people in its care.
The home has been developed to provide a warm, nurturing and trauma-informed environment where children can experience safety, stability and trusted relationships.
Situated within the local community, Tirnant has been designed to feel like a family home, providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for the children and young people who live there.
Its location will also help children remain close to their schools, friends, families and existing support networks wherever possible.
The development has been supported through Welsh Government funding as part of a national commitment to increase high-quality not-for-profit children’s residential care across Wales.
Heather Thomas, Home Manager at Tirnant Children’s Home, said: “I am incredibly proud to be leading Tirnant and to welcome children into a home that has been created specifically with their needs in mind. Our focus is on creating a warm, nurturing and trauma-informed environment where children feel safe, valued and supported to achieve their potential while remaining connected to the people and communities that are important to them.”
Caerphilly County Borough Council said the new home forms part of its commitment as a corporate parent to ensure children and young people in its care have the opportunity to thrive.

The council says providing a stable and nurturing environment at Tirnant will help children and young people build confidence, develop positive relationships and lay the foundations for positive futures and lifelong wellbeing.
