Renowned Welsh chef Angela Gray has backed City Hospice’s launch of Welsh Cake Wednesday.

Angela, who runs a popular cookery school at Llanerch Vineyard, is supporting the initiative and has released her own special welsh cake recipe for people to recreate.

Welsh Cake Wednesday creates opportunities for people to come together to talk and support each other, enjoy a Welsh treat and raise much needed funds for City Hospice. Whilst the gatherings will be virtual at the moment, they offer everyone the opportunity to get involved, from groups of friends, to schools, businesses, churches and other community groups.

City Hospice is Cardiff’s local hospice, providing care to people with terminal or life limiting illnesses, as well as essential counselling and support services for the families of their patients. The only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital, City Hospice provides care and compassion to 550 patients at any one time.

Angela Gray, of Angela Gray’s Cookery School at Llanerch Vineyard, said: “I am delighted to be able to support City Hospice with this recipe for Welsh Cake Wednesday. A good welsh cake is a treat that so many people love, and I am sure there will be lots of home cooks turning their hand to making a few batches that can be shared and help to raise funds for such a great cause.”

Liz Andrews, Chief Executive of City Hospice, said: “We really appreciate Angela’s support for Welsh Cake Wednesday and look forward to trying her delicious recipe. This is an exciting, new way to come together (albeit virtually at the moment), have fun, enjoy a delicious welsh cake and support our charity at the same time.”

Welsh Cake Wednesday is kindly sponsored by Cardiff Food Company. For further information visit: https://www.cityhospice.org.uk/welsh-cake-wednesday/
