Resilient Roads drainage improvements on the A4058 at Tonypandy

Residents and road users are advised that significant drainage improvements will take place on the A4058 at Tonypandy, on the section of road south of the Asda store – requiring overnight traffic lights over the coming weeks.

The Council has secured funding from Welsh Government’s Resilient Roads grant for a scheme to replace 230-metres of the existing kerbline with a new combined kerb drainage system. A new manhole will also be constructed in the verge, along with a new filter drain connecting into the drainage system. These measures will improve the road’s drainage in periods of heavy rainfall.

Horan Construction Ltd has been appointed by the Council as the contractor responsible for delivering the scheme, with work beginning from Thursday, March 18. Work is scheduled to last approximately four weeks in total.

In order to proceed safely, the contractor requires a lane closure and two-way traffic lights on the section of the A4058 between Asda Tonypandy and Tonypandy Roundabout. All work will therefore take place between 7pm and 6am on Monday to Friday, to minimise disruption as much as possible.

The contractor will carry out the noisiest elements of the work between 7pm and 11pm, as part of a number of measures to limit overall disruption to the community. A letter is being delivered to local residents to advise them of the works, and to provide an Out of Hours contact number to reach the site team.

This scheme is the latest to deliver Resilient Roads improvements across the County Borough. Work at the A4119 Tonypandy Bypass and on the A4058 near Tonypandy Railway Station Roundabout have been completed recently.

Significant drainage improvements also got underway on the A4059 Aberdare Bypass from March 15, while a local scheme to install additional gullies and complete minor repairs on the B4275 in Abercynon took place last week.
