Pupils get a sneak preview of their new school

Staff and pupils who will be moving to the new Ysgol Y Graig Primary School, Cefn Coed, at the start of the Autumn Term have been shown around their new ‘home’.

Teachers and classes from Key Stage 2 were given a tour by the construction company, Kier and were blown away at the new facilities, with one Year 4 pupil exclaiming “This is amazing – I can’t wait for September!”

The new school will replace the existing ageing building with a two-storey state-of-the-art structure on the former Vaynor & Penderyn School site.

The school has been built with energy efficiency in mind and has the latest hybrid ventilation technology, controlled by an intelligent automatic control system to provide energy efficient, carbon neutral cooling and ventilation. It also has LED lighting, with automatic lighting controls to further reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Headteacher, Mr Anstee said: “The children were so excited to get a sneak preview of their fantastic new school.  It really is an outstanding modern building, and their learning environment will make going to school every day a real pleasure.”

Kier Project Manager Mark Poole said: “It has been an honour to deliver the new Ysgol Y Graig Primary School.  A fantastic building that provides the children of the community with a modern learning facility to enhance their educational journey.”
