One of the capital’s most iconic shops has reopened after flood damage in an adjacent building forced it to close for over a month.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru Home Plus store on Crwys Road attracts customers from across South Wales because of the wide range of quality preloved, vintage, and new furniture and home items it stocks.
With its vibrant branding and prime location in the heart of Cathays, the shop is a favourite with anyone looking to furnish their property while being mindful of price and cost to the planet.
Area manager Lawrence Turner says, “While many of us are looking to improve our home environments on a budget, with an eye on our carbon footprints, I’m delighted to say the BHF is once again welcoming customers to Crwys Road.
“I know students, families and professionals in the area will be as pleased as we are that the shop is back up and running after our brief closure, but we’ve taken the opportunity to refresh the whole unit and given the place a facelift. We’re back and better than ever!”
The store was forced to close temporarily after a break in and theft of water pipes at the adjoining vacant shop unit led to extensive flood damage in January. Since then, staff and volunteers have pulled out all the stops in a clean-up operation which has seen the interior repainted, redesigned and with new flooring throughout.
Head of BHF Cymru, Adam Fletcher, officially reopened the store commenting, “It’s like a brand-new shop. I’m so proud of our BHF family who’ve worked tirelessly to ensure this flagship store is once again helping us raise vital funds to save lives through research. For more than 60 years the public’s generosity has funded BHF research that has turned ideas that once seemed like ‘science fiction’ into treatments and cures that save lives every day. But millions of people are still waiting for the next breakthrough.
“Today in Wales around 340,000 people are living with the daily burden of heart and circulatory diseases and dozens of families will lose loved ones to devastating heart diseases. We urgently need the public’s support to keep our life saving research going, and to discover the treatments and cures of the future. Thanks to the public donating and supporting our shops, the BHF can keep its life saving research going, helping us turn science fiction into reality.”
