Not only does the new restaurant being fitted out at Swansea’s emerging coastal park have a new name – it now has a general manager too.

Sophie Smith will be in charge of day-to-day running of the venue, which is to be called ‘The Green Room’ and operated by The Secret Hospitality Group.

The name of the restaurant is a nod to its proximity to Swansea Arena, as well as its environmentally-friendly credentials.

It forms part of the £135m Copr Bay phase one district being developed by Swansea Council and advised by development managers RivingtonHark.

Swansea-based The Secret Hospitality Group also run The Secret Beach Bar and Kitchen on Mumbles Road, as well as The Optimist Bar and Kitchen in the Uplands.

Once open, The Green Room will employ up to 20 staff from the local area.

Sophie, who is from Swansea, said: “We’re thrilled to be making significant progress on the fit-out of The Green Room, which is located in the stunning coastal park next to Swansea Arena as part of the Copr Bay development led by Swansea Council, which is a game-changing scheme for the city.

“We want everything at the restaurant to be as sustainable and ethical as possible, from powering the venue by renewable energy to using local, small-batch suppliers to keep our spending in the local economy.

“Although the menu is still to be finalised, we’re looking at things like brunch and coffee throughout the day, with dishes including pizza available in the evenings.

“Also having the potential to host live entertainment, The Green Room will be a great spot for people to meet – whether they’re spending time with family and friends in the coastal park or planning a meal before an event at Swansea Arena.

“We’ll also soon be announcing our opening date, and can’t wait to welcome customers to a venue we’re truly excited about.”

Plenty of greenery is now being planted at the 1.1-acre coastal park, with Swansea Arena due to open in March.

Other features of the Copr Bay phase one district – worth £17.1m a year to Swansea’s economy – include the new bridge over Oystermouth Road and other new spaces for local hospitality businesses.

The arena element of the scheme is being part-funded by the £1.3bn Swansea Bay City Deal, with the Welsh Government part-funding the bridge via the Active Travel initiative.
