Fat Hippo, a group of independent burger joints found all over the UK, has announced the opening date of their brand new restaurant in Cardiff city centre.

The company, who specialise in the best burgers, loaded fries and more ‘good old fashioned, roll up your sleeves and get it all over your face’ food, will open the brand new restaurant on Church Street for dine in on Friday 20th May.

The restaurant, located at 17 Church Street, has approximately 100 covers inside as well as an outdoor dining area.

Customers have been advised to keep an eye on Fat Hippo’s website and socials for updates of when the booking system is open.

The group also work closely with Deliveroo and will be launching on the platform in Cardiff to allow customers to enjoy Fat Hippo’s signature burgers in the comfort of their own home. The restaurant will have its own Click and Collect service available via their own app.

This is Fat Hippo’s first restaurant in Wales and the company, who have 12 more locations across the UK, has exciting plans to continue growing, with further sites being established over the next year, including Glasgow and Birmingham.

With a full menu of their signature beef and buttermilk chicken patties, that come with free fries as standard, Fat Hippo Cardiff will have a carefully designed range of vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options available as well as a great value kids menu.

Michael Phillips, who founded Fat Hippo in the North East in 2010 said: “We’re so excited to announce Fat Hippo Cardiff will be open for dine in on Friday 20th May.

“The buzz about us coming to Church Street has been incredible and we already feel so welcomed by the people of Cardiff. We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy ‘the good kind of gluttony’ in our brand new restaurant!”

The family friendly burger joint is famed for its quality ingredients and quirky flavours, with burgers like the signature Fat Hippo (a double beef burger topped with American cheese, smoked bacon, chorizo, onion rings and Fat Hippo sauce) available, alongside the classics.

The group’s signature tangy namesake sauce is also a firm favourite with customers and can be found amongst other menu items such as Dirty Fries.

Michael Johnson, the company’s Operations Manager, said: “Opening our first restaurant in Wales is an opportunity we just couldn’t turn down, let alone in a prime location like Church Street. The countdown is officially on!”
