The Splash Pad in Cyfarthfa Park has now reopened following the completion of extensive refurbishments.
The popular play pool has seen the installation of new wet play equipment and water jets, and a new soft rubber play surface. Upgraded plant equipment will also make the water pump system more effective.
The project was funded by the County Borough Council to complement the redevelopment works funded through the Welsh Government’s Valleys Regional Park ‘Discovery Gateway’ Programme, which also included the Canolfan, new toilets and changing rooms. The Welsh Government-funded work has also provided better access to the site through the construction of new paths, steps and a footbridge.
The Council’s Head of Regeneration & Housing Chris Long said: “After delays caused by the pandemic and on-site problems, we’re pleased to see completion of work on refurbishing the Splash Pad.
“The improvements were carried out after we consulted with pupils of Cyfarthfa Park Primary School about the types of equipment they preferred,” he added. “We’re delighted with their choice and we know that all the children using the facility will be too.”
Wellbeing@Merthyr Chief Executive Jane Sellwood said: “It’s been great to welcome back families over the Easter period. The Splash Pad will be running throughout the remainder of the spring and summer, from 11am to 6pm daily. And we welcome wellies and wetsuits on colder days, too!”
