Bridgend is ‘pawfect’ destination for dog friendly days out

It’s the final few weeks for Dog lovers, Snoopy fans and their four-legged friends to take part in A Dog’s Trust’sspectacular free public art trail.

A Dog’s Trail with Snoopy has seen the streets and seafront in Porthcawl become home to six intricately decorated Snoopy sculptures, designed and decorated by South Wales-based and national artists, along with 12 miniature sculptures decorated by local schools.

The trail is heading into its final weeks and visitors have until 5th June 2022 to take part in locating each of the colourful artworks and to take advantage of special offers from businesses along the trail using the Dog’s Trail app.

The trail is helping to raise significant funds for Dogs Trust, which finds forever homes for thousands of abandoned dogs.

The event has coincided with a campaign by Visit Bridgend, highlighting why the county is the ‘pawfect’ destination for dog friendly days out and staycations, due to its beautiful coast, countryside and brilliant selection of dog-friendly pubs, cafés, attractions, and accommodation.

The ‘Woof you were here’ campaign highlights places to visit including Kenfig Nature Reserve, Bryngarw County Park and Bridgend Designer Outlet; places to stay including Court Colman Manor and Trecco Bay Holiday Park; as well as places to eat including a doggy afternoon tea at Coed Y Mwstwr Hotel, with goodies including bacon and peanut butter bone biscuit, chicken and beef meatloaf and yoghurt paw pops, plus a bottle of Pawsecco to wash it down with, as well as The Potting Shed, a quirky dog friendly café close to Newton Beach.

Abbe Vaughan from The Potting She, said: “We love being dog friendly, we like to think there is no better place for our furry friends to relax after a long walk on the beach than at The Potting Shed. We have fresh water and free biscuits on hand, and we allow dogs inside and out, so that they can enjoy our cafe come rain or shine! We love welcoming visitors and their pets, and we hope to continue seeing lots of new and old faces and paws during the final few weeks of the A Dog’s Trail.”

Alice Brown, Destination Manager Officer at Visit Bridgend, said: “Seeing so many people take part in A Dog’s Trail with Snoopy in Porthcawl has been wonderful. It has given visitors and their four-legged friends another reason to visit our dog-friendly county and discover why we’re the ‘paw’-fect destination for a staycation or day trip. As the trail enters its final few weeks, we encourage everyone on two legs and four to come along and take part.”
