The housebuilder is currently building nearly 300 new properties at Carn y Cefn on the former Ebbw Vale Comprehensive School and College site.

A total of 55 of the properties will eventually be available for social rent with not-for-profit housing organisation United Welsh for prospective tenants on the Blaenau Gwent Council Common Housing Register.

Representatives from Persimmon Homes East Wales and United Welsh were recently joined by Blaenau Gwent’s Cabinet Member for Place, Cllr John Morgan, to mark the latest handover of four properties at the development.

Further homes will be transferred by Persimmon to United Welsh later this year.

Lee Woodfine, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said:

“We’re delighted to be working with United Welsh and Blaenau Gwent Council to provide much-needed new social housing in Ebbw Vale.

“During the course of construction at Carn y Cefn, we will be transferring 55 quality new homes to United Welsh for the purposes of housing local people.

“Persimmon is proud of the significant investment we are making locally in Ebbw Vale, through the provision of new homes, jobs, and funding for key public services.

“This affordable housing scheme has only been possible due to the positive working relationships between all partners and stakeholders, and we will continue to deliver a positive and lasting legacy for local people and the community in Ebbw Vale.”

The development is delivering a substantial £29m investment in the Gwent Valleys and creating more than 200 jobs during its construction life.

The site will create more than 200 jobs over the five-year construction period, as well as boosting the local economy by £7m per annum.

Blaenau Gwent’s Cabinet Member for Place, Cllr John Morgan, said:

“It was a pleasure to join representatives from Persimmon and United Welsh to mark the handover of the latest properties at Carn y Cefn.

“The properties are much-needed and will be used for the purposes of housing local people and prospective tenants on the Blaenau Gwent Council’s Common Housing Register.

“Persimmon is building much-needed new homes in Ebbw Vale, and I’m pleased to see them continue to make a positive contribution in the local community working in partnership with the local authority and United Welsh.”

Lynn Morgan, Executive Director of Development, Assets and Sustainability at United Welsh said:

“We are delighted to work in partnership with Blaenau Gwent Council and Persimmon to bring more high-quality homes to Ebbw Vale.

“The homes will be a new chapter for local residents in need of affordable housing in Blaenau Gwent, and we look forward to welcoming them to their new homes.”
