A REDROW site manager from Flintshire is celebrating after winning a top industry accolade.

Cait Grady from Sychdyn, near Mold, has been awarded a NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award for the North West.

The National House Building Council (NHBC) celebrates the very best UK site managers and their commitment to raising standards in house building.

With only 444 winners selected out of over 8,000 entrants across the UK, Cait is among the country’s best house builders, and among just 42 winners in the North West, along with her colleagues Jake Green, Ben Goostrey, and Peter Campbell-Wright.

Judging for the awards is rigorous, with the current competition beginning in July last year.

Each site manager is assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.

Thousands of site inspections and meticulous scoring and verifications have taken place to decide the winning site managers.

Cait Grady, 34, has worked for Redrow for the past 10 years, initially joining as a member of the interior design team.

Realising her passion lay in construction Cait completed a masters in construction management and switched roles to a project coordinator, before becoming an assistant site manager and then site manager at  Redrow’s Chester development – King’s Moat Garden Village.

“It was absolutely the best decision I made, and I wish I had made the jump into construction a lot earlier,” said Cait, who lives in Flintshire with her daughter.

“The job is so fast paced; you are always busy and constantly have to think on your feet to overcome issues on a daily basis whilst trying to maintain a safe and well-presented working site.”

Cait is ‘overjoyed’ to have won the award and pays tribute to the hard work carried out by the whole team on site.

“I have been lucky to be part of the King’s Moat Garden Village team for the last two years,” said Cait.

“My method of working has been heavily influenced by a team that has consistently expected a high-quality output from our trades and pushed best practice on site across all build stages.

“The time and effort put in to showcase this site was immense. It took a lot of hard work to ensure the site was set up correctly right from the very beginning. So many aspects are really thought about from the traffic management around the site, right through to the quality execution of design within the build process across all stages from groundworks to handover,” she added.

Jason Newton, managing director for Redrow NW, said: “This award is given to the best site managers in the UK and I’m very proud to say that four of those work for Redrow here in the North West.

“Cait’s hard work, dedication and determination to achieve the highest quality standards has been deservedly recognised; I wish her all the very best for the next round.”

Commenting on the awards, Steve Wood, CEO at NHBC said: “It is important we recognise the vital role site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.

“This accolade recognises the best site managers across the UK and celebrates how much all the winners have inspired their teams by going the extra mile to deliver homes of the highest quality.”

The Quality Award winners will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national Supreme Award winners unveiled in January 2024.
