A large number of enthusiastic young cricketers at Rydal Penrhos helped their regional side to success recently.

The Senior and Prep School group were involved in a busy day of championship action with Mochdre Cricket Club, which was a reflection of their outstanding summer of development and impressive result throughout.

Both sides were captained by Year 6 pupil James Gilman, with Tomas Milligan, Oscar Jewsbury, Keira Luke, Cieran Milligan, Harry Fardoe and Telor Jones competing in the Eryri Soft Ball tournament at Llandudno Cricket Club.

This involved contests against Dolgellau, Llandudno and Bangor, with Mochdre winning their two opening games to see them involved in a winner-take-all encounter with Bangor to determine the overall champion.

After a closely contested affair, Mochdre needed six to win off the final delivery, and James produced the goods with a stunning stroke to lead his side to victory.

This competition triumph was played swiftly after Mochdre contested the U11 North Wales final against Brymbo, with James, Grace Watkins, Cieran, Harry and Telor all lining up during a busy day of action.

The game produced another tight finish, and this time Mochdre were narrowly unable to reach their required total and were defeated by just four runs.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said:

“This was a very pleasing performance from all of our young players, and this is going to give them plenty of confidence as they embark on our winter nets programme to hone their skills further during the off-season.

“It is a very exciting time for our Cricket programme thanks to a series of recent developments, and with talent and commitment such as this I am confident it is going to go from strength-to-strength in the future.”
