Haunted Hallowe’en Trail at Gregynog Hall for half term visitors

Get ready for a spectacularly spooky October half term at Gregynog Hall as the famous Mid Wales country estate’s wild woods are transformed into a Haunted Hallowe’en Trail.

Hallowe’en Trail sheets will cost £6 – including a special Hallowe’en themed drink and treat – and will be on sale at Gregynog’s Courtyard Café which will be open from Saturday, October 28 to Sunday, November 5 between 10am and 4pm, as well as a café menu of Hallowe’en specials.

Lydia Bassett, head of business development at Gregynog Hall, located at Tregynon, near Newtown, said: “We can’t wait to welcome ghosts, ghouls, witches and warlocks for our Halloween Trail.

“We’re definitely encouraging dressing up, but make sure your feet are dressed for a walk in our wonderful woods.

“We’re very grateful to Tregynon and Newtown’s Knit and Natterers who have been busy helping make giant crochet cobwebs to help decorate the trail.

“The estate includes a National Nature Reserve and we’re working towards being plastic free, so giant knitted cobwebs are ideal.

“If you fancy having a go at creating your own cobwebs for the trail, there are plenty of great ideas on YouTube and they are fun to make. Just drop them in to the café and we can include them in our spooky trail.”

There is no need to book in advance, but Lydia advises visitors to keep an eye on the weather and to remember their wellies. She says there will be lots of surprises along the route including plenty of pumpkins and face painting in the Painting Shed alongside Gregynog’s lily pond.

It costs £2.50 to park at Gregynog, with the money going towards keeping the hall’s 750 acres of grounds open to everyone all year round.

Run by a charitable trust, Gregynog’s events programme, café and weddings all help to support the maintenance of the picturesque historic house and estate.
