This year’s free Swansea Christmas parade will feature more than 40 local community groups.

They include performing arts groups such as Mellin Theatre Arts, The Rising Stars Theatre Company and the Bernadette Jones School of Irish Dancing.

Sports clubs include Swansea Storm Basketball Club and Waunarlwydd RFC.

They will be joined by a diverse range of local groups in officially marking the start of the festive season in the city. They include Bonymaen Kids Play Initiative, National Autistic Society Swansea, Fforestfach Scout Group and BMHS-BAME Mental Health Support.

Collectively, these groups will ensure that hundreds of local residents of all ages will take part in the parade on Sunday, November 19. The invitation to take part is now closed for this year.

The Christmas parade is one of the main highlights of Swansea Council’s annual events programme and one of its largest free events.

Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “Local community groups and organisations play a huge part in the parade’s success. I’m delighted that so many have responded positively to our invitation to take part this year.

“Christmas is one of the most important times of year for our communities and this parade gives tens of thousands of people another great chance to enjoy their city centre.

“Excitement is mounting as the date of the parade gets closer.

“The parade and Santa’s important role in switching on the city centre lights is just the right kind of curtain-raiser to get people in the festive mood.

“The parade will be full of light, music and dancing, featuring Christmas floats, professional performers, community groups and everyone’s favourite fairy tale and movie characters.

“It’s been a challenging year financially for many people and we’re delighted that we’re able to stage this amazing free event once again this year.”

Swansea’s 2023 Christmas Parade will take place from 5pm on November 19. The route will start at Victoria Road before heading up Princess Way, Caer Street, Castle Street and High Street, into Alexandra Road, before heading down Orchard Street and along The Kingsway.

As in previous years, for the safety of participants and spectators, there will be a number of temporary road closures in the city centre.
