The Royal Mint Experience, based in Llantrisant, South Wales has revealed the first coin of 2024 visitors can strike for themselves as part of a tour of award-winning visitor attraction.

The coin is His Majesty King Charles III’s definitive £1, featuring bees. The reverse design of the coin was approved by the King himself and reflects his passion for conservation and the natural world.  This is the first-time members of the public will have the opportunity to strike the new definitive £1 coin, making it a treasured addition to any collection.

Coin striking is an experience loved by the thousands of visitors who come to The Royal Mint Experience each year from across the globe. To this date over 280,000 coins have been struck by visitors since its opening in 2016.

Previously, visitors have been able to strike their own coin commemorating King Charles III’s Coronation, as well as the magical coin celebrating THE WORLD OF THE SNOWMAN™.

This is the first-time members of the public will have the opportunity to strike a definitive £1 coin, giving them the opportunity to be a part of a momentous occasion in UK coinage history and take home a unique souvenir. His Majesty King Charles III’s definitive coins were unveiled in October 2023, marking the final chapter of His Majesty King Charles III’s transition onto British coinage.

Dan Johnson, Visitor Attraction Manager said: “We are delighted to welcome visitors to The Royal Mint Experience to strike their own definitive £1. The change of monarch is such a significant occasion in UK history, and King Charles III’s definitive coins signify the completion of his transition onto British coins.”

The Royal Mint Experience welcomes over 60,000 visitors each year. The unique tour takes visitors ‘behind the scenes’ of coin making, followed by an interactive exhibition exploring 1,100 years of The Royal Mint’s history. Visitors will also have the unique experience of seeing The Royal Mint’s workforce producing official UK coins as well as coins for other countries.

To book tickets to The Royal Mint Experience, please visit The Royal Mint’s website. Visitors will be charged an additional £7.50 to strike their own coin as part of their tour.
