RCT Council has completed the first stage of flood alleviation work along Park Street in Tylorstown, ahead of a wider flood alleviation scheme which is currently being developed.
The initial works, which got underway in late September, have increased the local drainage network’s capacity by improving the existing culvert and swale network.
Several chambers, weirs and catch pits have been installed to slow the flow of water entering the culvert, while around 180-metres of the culvert was replaced at the southern end of Park Street.
The works are designed to deliver an alleviation of flood risk to nearby residential streets, including Arfryn Terrace and Brynheulog Terrace.
Local road closures at Park Street and Cynllwyndu Road were lifted following the completion of the works.
Please note, some topsoiling and seeding work is still outstanding, as it is dependent upon improved weather conditions.
These works have benefitted from an 85% funding contribution from Welsh Government’s Small Scale Works Grant programme and RCT funding.
Meanwhile, progress is being made behind the scenes to develop a wider flood alleviation scheme for the area.
A Council-appointed consultant is currently developing a business justification case for a future application to the Welsh Government for funding – further details will be communicated in due course.
