From the dawn of mobile games in the 2000s to the explosion of games that came after the first smartphones, mobile games have become a truly significant part of the gaming industry. Today, there are hundreds of games available across Android and IOS that give you access to hours of endless entertainment at your fingertips. But which have had the biggest impact over the years?

In this article, we’ll share the five most popular mobile games.

    1. Online casino games

Casino games have always been popular due to their fast-paced and exciting nature. But thanks to technology, they’re becoming more popular than ever. Nowadays, you can play online casino games on your phone from the comfort of your armchair. You can play all the classic games like slots, poker, blackjack and roulette whenever you want with the click of a few buttons.

    1. Candy Crush

Candy Crush has gone down in history as one of the most popular games ever, having been downloaded more than 5 billion times – and it’s easy to see why. This simple and addictive game has you swap pieces of candy to complete puzzles, earn points and unlock new levels. Since the first version of the game, the developer King has released new installations such as Candy Crush Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga, keeping avid fans entertained for years.

    1. Tetris

Published in 1984, this world-renowned game is one of the oldest games out there. Tetris has you strategically arrange falling blocks of different shapes and sizes to complete horizontal lines without gaps. Despite being so old, the Tetris community is still well and truly thriving today. In fact, the Tetris was only beaten for the first time in 2024, which is a testament to its equally challenging and rewarding gameplay.

    1. Pokémon Go

Pokémon fans of all ages went crazy when this game was first released in 2016, and the hype around it has hardly died down since. This augmented reality game lets players to discover and interact with Pokémon creatures in the real world through their phones, living out Ash’s dream to “catch them all”. Not only is this game incredibly fun and nostalgic, but it also encourages players to engage in healthy physical activity and explore the great outdoors.

    1. Roblox

Originally released as a PC game in 2006, Roblox came onto the mobile gaming scene in 2021 and has built a huge following of fans ever since. It’s an unusual game in that it contains a universe of games created by players themselves. And since the members of its huge fanbase have varied interests, this means that Roblox spans countless different gaming genres. No wonder it has become such a recognisable name in the mobile gaming world.

Which of these mobile games will you be playing first?
