The cash offer is part of the Council efforts to encourage more use of reusable nappies and will also support the national ‘Reusable Nappy Week’ which runs between 22 – 28 April.

The campaign seeks to encourage parents to make the switch from disposable nappies, helping them to save money and the environment.

An estimated 3.6 billion nappies are thrown away in the UK each year, costing Local Authorities over £140 million each year for collection and disposal.

Parents in Swansea can find out more about the reusable nappies when pop-up information stalls are held at local libraries during the special week.

Cyril Anderson, Cabinet Member for Community, said; “Most parents using disposable nappies with their children will likely dispose of them in their black bag waste – and over a two week period, this can increase how much waste parents are putting out.

“It’s also quite expensive for parents and it’s estimated that during a two-year period when young babies are in nappies, parents can spend up to £1300.

“New parents who are just starting their journey with a young baby should consider the benefits of using reusable nappies. Not only will they save a lot of money they can put towards other things, they can also get £100 cashback by applying reusable nappies through our website.

“Many years ago, most parents used real nappies and there was a lot of work involved to clean them. Those days are behind us and the use of new materials and modern technology means that this generation of reusable nappies are easy to use.

“I would urge parents to give them a try and see if they can save some money.”

Parents in Swansea can apply here https://www.swansea.gov.uk/nappies for more information and £100 cashback.
