Mermaid Quay is supporting Mental Health Awareness Week with a lineup of free events and pop ups on the Quayside from the 13th to the 19th May.

The week, which is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, is in its 24th year and this year’s theme is ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’.

Even though the benefits of physical activity on our mental health are well known, getting enough fresh air and exercise can sometimes be a struggle with 36% of UK adults finding it a challenge to find the time for physical activity. So, this Mental Health Awareness Week Mermaid Quay is encouraging local residents and visitors to find moments for movement in their daily routines.

During the week Mermaid Quay will be hosting a range of wellbeing activities including:

    Monday 13th May

Members of the Mermaid Quay Management Team and service providers are taking on a cycling challenge to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.

Partnering with Pure Gym they will be cycling the distance between Mermaid Quay to New Quay, West Wales, on static bikes in Tacoma Square, totalling 123 miles.

Join them on Monday 13th May to cheer them on, wish them luck and help raise vital funds for The Mental Health Foundation.

Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th May

Free outdoor yoga sessions provided by Vibes Yoga studio will be held between 10am and 11am overlooking the bay at Mermaid Quay.

Take a moment to enjoy some gentle stretches as you gaze out over the bay, soaking up the relaxing sound of the water on the jetty, and the birds singing in the sky. Pure tranquillity and bliss.

    Thursday 16th May

In partnership with Tanya from Green T Therapy you will have the chance to relax and restore with a 10-minute complimentary massage or reiki session right in the heart of Mermaid Quay. Sessions will be available between 11am – 12:30pm and 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

    Friday 17th May

Pedal Power are an inclusive cycle-hire charity for all ages and abilities based in Cardiff. They will be at Mermaid Quay between 12pm and 4pm where you can learn all about the charity and the options available to you for getting in to cycling.

    Saturday 18th May

Get the whole family out of the house and involved in some active fun with family friendly dance sessions on the waterfront between 12pm and 4pm.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned dancer or have two left feet, everyone is welcome to come along and just have fun!
