Twyn Primary School is delighted to announce the successful opening of its new playground, following an extraordinary fundraising campaign led by its students. The playground was officially opened on Tuesday, 5th June, thanks to the combined efforts of the school and the local community.

The students raised an impressive £11,000 towards the £20,000 target by participating in the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 2k race on May 12th. Their dedication and hard work were further recognised with a £100 gift voucher from Sport Caerphilly, awarded for having the highest number of entrants in the race among local schools.

Headteacher Lee Thomas expressed his pride in the students and the broader community: “The old playground was falling apart and was not suitable for the children to play on for a substantial period of time. I am incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and determination in raising such a significant amount of money. The joy this new playground has brought to the children is immeasurable, and it stands as a testament to the strength and unity of our community.”

Jared Lougher, Sport and Leisure Development Manager, also emphasised the importance of community events: “I’m glad the event has been able to support local schools and the community by bringing everyone together to achieve their goals. This is such a big reason why we hold events like the Caerphilly 10k and 2k because they provide such a positive platform for the community.”

Twyn Primary School extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this successful project, including students, parents, staff, and community members. The new playground is not only a safer and more enjoyable space for the children but also a symbol of what can be achieved through teamwork and perseverance.
