Cardiff’s vibrant dining scene is set to welcome a stunning new addition with the opening of Aura, an elegant brasserie and bar located at the historic Coal Exchange Hotel. Set to open in September, Aura promises to blend luxury with industrial chic, offering a unique dining experience that celebrates the rich heritage and culture of one of the city’s most iconic buildings.

The new venue offers modern European cuisine, a carefully curated cocktail menu, and all-day dining.

The interior, crafted by Sophie Pascoe of Studio Severn Design with styling from Flair Interior, combines polished marble, rich timber, plush upholstered furniture, and brass accents to create a refined yet relaxed atmosphere. This sophisticated design complements the innovative cuisine, providing an unforgettable dining experience.

Aura’s menu will feature dishes that honour traditional flavours with a modern twist. Guests can expect a selection of signature dishes such as Dover Sole on or off the bone, served with a caper butter sauce; 650g Rib of Beef to Share; Atlantic Edge Oysters from Pembrokeshire; British Wagyu Burger served with Black Bomber Snowdonia Cheddar; Signature Sunday Roasts; Bottomless Brunches; and Bar Snacks.

Keith Clash, General Manager of The Coal Exchange Hotel, said: “Crafted and brought to life by our team of industry experts, Aura aims to provide an unforgettable dining experience, where innovative cuisine meets a warm and captivating atmosphere. Our interior seamlessly blends the charm of the original historic features with contemporary design, reflecting the same balance in our food and drink offerings. We look forward to welcoming you to Aura and sharing this exciting new chapter with you.”

Aura occupies a single, accessible floor with 72 restaurant covers, 26 bar seats, and an exclusive private dining room. The venue also includes a dedicated event space, ideal for special occasions, corporate events, and intimate gatherings. The private dining area offers a more secluded atmosphere while still embodying the luxurious and inviting aesthetic of the main restaurant.

Aura will officially open to the public on 6 September.
