Three Year 11 girls at Denbigh’s Myddelton College who made a pact to open their GCSE results together were all smiles after they aced their exams and will be reunited in the school’s sixth form next month.
Farzanah Restall, from Gwaenysgor, in Flintshire, Aimee Tramaseur, from Prestatyn, and Luciana Farinha, from Afonwen, waited until they had all arrived at the school this morning before opening the brown envelopes and then it was all smiles and hugs with 16 A-stars between them.
The four were part of a 44-strong Year 11 at the school, one of the largest independent schools in Wales with over 350 pupils, with 93 per cent gaining A-star to C grades.
Overall 86 per cent gained five or more A-star to C grades including in English, Maths and Science and 70 per cent achieved at least one A-star or A grade.
It has earned them praise from headmaster Andrew Allman who is moving to take over at Lucton School in Herefordshire next month and who was delighted with the performance.
He said: “We are delighted with these excellent results which are a real testament to the hard work our students have put in over their time here at Myddelton.
“Most of them have gone through their education here at Myddelton and that’s a real positive for us and with almost all coming back it will give the school a strong Sixth Form to look forward to.
“Many joined Myddelton in the prep school and have gone on to achieve these solid results here and will continue at sixth form so that shows that whatever Myddelton is doing is working.”
Farzanah had a clean sweep of nine A-stars and will study Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry at A-level and already has her sights set on Cambridge University.
She said: “I’ve been doing an astronomy course on line during the summer holidays and reading a lot.
“We had a pact to open our results together so we hung on until we were all here and we’re all really pleased. The pressure is off now and I can relax for a little while.”
Aimee, who gained three A-stars, three As, two Bs and a C, said: “I’m delighted. It means so much” while her dad, Adam, said: “She has done fantastically. I couldn’t miss being here. I’m very proud.
“She has worked very hard and put so much into it.”
Luciana, with four A-stars and three As, said I’m delighted. It was a last minute decision to open our results together but we’re all very happy now. The pressure is off.
“I’m going to do Sciences and Geography at A-level and would like to become a vet. I love animals.”
Cricket fan Zac Coverley from Rhos on Sea stopped off at the school for his results on his way to the First Test between England and Sri Lanka at Old Trafford – and was glad he had.
The keen cricketer, who plays for Mochdre Seconds in the North Wales League, gained four A-stars and five As and is going to study History, Biology and PE and would like a career in sport, possibly in journalism.
His dad, Neil, said: “He is a very laid-back character but he has some pleasing results and the school has done very well.
“He has been here at Myddelton since Year Seven and it’s been a good move for him. We’ve been really happy with the school.”
Other impressive results were achieved by Isabella Tucker, from Prestatyn, gained seven A-stars and two As and will take Biology, Chemistry, Business and Psychology in September with a view to studying Medicine at university.
Alfie Roberts, Rhyl, picked up four A-stars and 5 As, Sam Duke-Williams, from Trefnant, three A-stars and five As, Grace Watkins, of Rhos on Sea, five A-stars and two As, Ellis Lister-Brookes, Colwyn Bay, five As, two Bs and two Cs, and Maddy O’Brien, from Denbigh, fours As, three Bs and two Cs.
