Caerphilly County Borough Council is thrilled to announce the upgrade of Abercarn Primary School’s sports facility, funded by the Welsh Government’s Community Focused Schools Grant. This project is being delivered in partnership with Abercarn Primary School and local community groups, as part of the Council’s wider Sport and Active Recreation Strategy.

The project has seen the installation of a state-of-the-art 3G surface with floodlighting, providing an enhanced space for both school and community use. the facility will offer a high-quality venue for local sports clubs and organisations to train and host activities, supporting the Council’s commitment to increasing opportunities for physical activity and engagement.

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “This upgrade will provide a fantastic resource for both the school and the local community, supporting healthier and more active lifestyles.”

Cllr Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education and Communities, emphasised the benefits for education, saying: “Upgrading to a 3G facility at Abercarn Primary School will significantly enhance opportunities for pupils to engage in high-quality physical education. This modern surface will support their physical development, encourage teamwork and provide a space where they can thrive both during lessons and extracurricular activities. It’s a wonderful addition that also benefits the wider community.”

Clubs interested in booking the upgraded facility are invited to submit their interest directly to the school by Thursday 23rd January. Bookings will be allocated in line with the authorities’ Artificial pitch allocation criteria, with confirmations provided by the end of January. Clubs that have already contacted the school do not need to reapply.
