The Newport Ship visitor centre will be opening for its 2025 season on Friday 28 March.
During the visitor season, which runs until Saturday 1 November, the visitor centre will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30am-4pm.

Visitors will be able to learn about the history of the fifteenth-century ship, its purpose, why it sank, and the project to reassemble it, which has been described as one of the world’s largest 3D puzzles.

Visitors on Saturday 29 March will be able to take part in family craft sessions with local artist Nathan Sheen, as well as be among the first to see some exciting new features at the centre.

The first new feature that visitors will be able to trial is a new virtual reality experience which places users on the deck of the ship while it is at sea, to get a feel for what life on board would have been like.

For visitors who want to hear more about the ship’s story, you will be able to listen to/purchase a new audio guide narrated by none other than actor Michael Sheen.

You can also go back in time to 15th century Basque country with our new animation which depicts the building and launching of the ship. Both this and an animation of the ship’s fateful journey to Newport are available to view at the centre.

Entrance to the centre is free, with donations to the Friends of the Newport Ship (FONS) appreciated.

Keep an eye on the Newport Ship website and social media platforms for details of special events throughout the year. This will once again include the popular medieval summer fayre, which this year takes place on Saturday 26 July from 10am-4pm.

Also keep an eye out for details of A Ship Through Time, a special two-part documentary on the origins of the ship, which will be airing on both S4C and Sky History in the near future.
