    Merthyr Tydfil Set to Celebrate Biggest World Book Day Festival

    Get ready for a literary extravaganza as the Merthyr Tydfil Arts and Literature Festival returns on Thursday, May 1st, from 9am to 3pm, hosted by the Stephens and George Charitable Trust in partnership with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council.

    Now in its eighth year, this free, family-friendly event is set to welcome over 4,000 children for a day full of books, creativity, culture, and community joy.

    This year, BBC Studios Drama Productions team is joining in on the fun, alongside stars from Pobol y Cwm and Casualty. Don’t miss the BBC Careers Marquee and the ‘GET IN’ Experience, offering hands-on insight into careers in: Journalism; Digital & Tech; Business; Production; Engineering and more

    Festival Highlights:

    • 9:30am – Parade of over 3,500 children in traditional Welsh dress
    • 10:00am – Grand Opening at St David’s Church
    • 200+ creative workshops featuring Sean Conway, Tim Price writer of NYE , Singer Bronwen Lewis, Floyd Woodrow, and more
    • All-day entertainment: stilt walkers, flash mobs, falconry, school choirs, vintage rides, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, James and the Giant Peach
    • 100+ stalls with food, crafts, books, and gifts

    This Year’s Theme is: “Wales is Great – You Can Achieve” which is focused on celebrating Welsh culture and the limitless potential of every young person.

    Town Centre Venues Include:
    Hope Church, Soar, Castle Hotel, The Tiger Inn , Salvation Army , High Street Baptist church , St Davids Church , Tydfil Training , VAMT,   The Library, plus over 10 marquees .
