    Vale awarded over £530,000 to enhance visitor experiences across the county

    The Vale of Glamorgan Council has been awarded more than £530,000 in Welsh Government Brilliant Basics funding, enabling major improvements to visitor facilities at key destinations across the county.

    Two successful project bids will benefit from this latest round of funding – the Barry Island Visitor Experience Improvement Project has secured £233,813.62 to support a range of new facilities, including changing rooms, beach wheelchairs, and digital water quality displays.

    A second award of £300,000 has been granted to Countryside Services for the refurbishment of toilet facilities at both Porthkerry and Cosmeston Country Parks, enhancing comfort and accessibility for park users.

    This is a cross-service initiative delivered in partnership between the Council’s Regeneration, Neighbourhood Services, and Shared Regulatory Services teams.

    Both projects form a part of a growing portfolio of successful funding bids made by the Vale of Glamorgan Council in recent years – including infrastructure improvements for the Cosmeston Gateway Project, improvements to the toilet facilities at Ogmore-by-Sea, Southerndown and Llantwit Major beaches and upgraded seating, shelter, footpaths and parking for the Porthkerry Gateway to the Coast project.

    Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places, said: “We’re delighted to have secured over £530,000 in this fresh round of Brilliant Basics funding to support improvements at some of the Vale’s most popular destinations.

    “These projects demonstrate the strength of partnership working across the Council, and this latest successful bid builds on our ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure that helps make the Vale more inclusive, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.”
