A new graffiti and street art festival brought colour, creativity and culture to Central Park in Barry.
Paintworx took place on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, bringing together some of the UK’s street artists for two days of live artwork, graffiti battles, music, fashion and independent traders.
The free festival was organised by local artists Hurts So Good and offered a family-friendly celebration of street art and contemporary culture.
Central Park was transformed into a showcase of creativity, where visitors could watch artists producing new work in front of the public.
Entertainment, food and trader stalls also helped create a lively atmosphere throughout the weekend.
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Cabinet Member for Education, Art and the Welsh Language, said: “It was fantastic to see Central Park brought to life by Paintworx and to welcome residents and visitors to this exciting new festival.
“Events such as this provide a wonderful opportunity to bring people together, showcase creative talent and make the most of our public spaces. The energy and colour the festival brought to Barry was fantastic to see, and we are pleased to have supported an event which offered something for people of all ages to enjoy.”
Paintworx was delivered and funded by the Barry Neighbourhoods Board through the UK Government’s Pride in Place Fund.
The festival provided a public platform for artists to create new work while helping to promote culture, creativity and community activity in Barry.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council said it would continue supporting opportunities that encourage people to enjoy the county’s public spaces and help make Barry and the wider Vale a great place to live, work and visit.
