What makes MOTchecker’s database one of the most comprehensive options available to UK drivers

MOTchecker is a London-based company founded in 2019 by Clinton Brewill to provide UK drivers with unlimited access to the latest MOT information. Starting as a small niche website, MOTchecker has become one of the most comprehensive sources on the topic over the years.

The team behind MOTchecker relies on its advanced systems that pull data from multiple authoritative sources and enable users to get all the information they need neatly packed into a single user-friendly page.

“We always place an emphasis on increasing accessibility, which is why we came up with MOTchecker in the first place. Why visit multiple web pages and scan through several paid sources when you can access all the necessary info with a single click? MOT is an incredibly important matter, and the more obstacles users have to overcome to find the required data, the more problems will arise, so we did our best to mitigate the issue and create a single universal source of truth for UK drivers,“ says Clinton Brewill, CEO of MOTchecker.

Doubling down on increased convenience, MOTchecker enables its customers to receive email and SMS reminders before their vehicle tax and MOT expire. The team behind the project also provides a trial option, enabling users to get fully unrestricted 48-hour access for only 50p before committing to a full subscription.

    What information does MOTchecker provide?

MOTchecker enables its users to enter their plate number and immediately view an extensive list of relevant parameters. To gather all of that information, the team uses the official GOV.UK sources as well as several trusted paid third-party providers.

    Vehicle information

The dashboard provides data on 15 separate vehicle parameters, including not only basic information like fuel type, but also highly specific details like insurance group, V5C issue date, cylinder capacity, and more.

    MOT and History

The MOT section enables users to check their status, due date, and previous records. This latter section showcases every single time the vehicle has undergone an MOT check as well as the results of these checks, including the reasons behind failed ones.

    Tax

MOTchecker provides users with all the necessary info on their road tax status, due date, CO2 emission levels, and calculated tax costs.

    Mileage information

Finally, the report includes both an estimated vehicle mileage and an average yearly mileage, as well as the last record, if available.

    What makes MOT so important?

As Clinton Brewill explains, MOT defines whether you are allowed to drive a vehicle on UK roads or not, and the certificate generally only lasts for three years, meaning that it has to be regularly reevaluated. Driving a car that has no valid MOT results in up to £1,000 in fines. At the same time, driving a car that has failed the evaluation can lead to up to £2,500 in fines as well as getting banned from driving and earning 3 penalty points.

Knowing your current MOT status and scheduling regular checks are crucial for any local driver, and MOTchecker provides all the tracking tools to ease this burden.
