Loungers has confirmed a delay to the opening of its new Barry venue, Morio Lounge, with no revised launch date currently announced.

The West Country based café bar group had originally planned to open the new venue at Nell’s Point on Wednesday, May 13. That date was later pushed back, with the company announcing a new opening date of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

However, Loungers has now confirmed that further delays have impacted the project due to issues with utility installations.

Kate Eastwood, Lounge Managing Director, said:

“We’re sorry to say that we need to push back the launch date of Morio Lounge in Barry. We know how much excitement there is locally, and we’re just as eager to open the doors but unfortunately, we have some utility installation delays.

“We can’t wait to bring our fabulous Lounge hospitality to Barry and will let you know as soon as we have a confirmed date. Thank you for all the interest and good wishes so far. It really will be worth the wait.”

At present, there is no confirmed opening date for Morio Lounge.

When it does eventually open, Morio Lounge is expected to create around 30 jobs for local people and bring the brand’s popular all day café bar offering to Barry waterfront.

The new venue is currently being transformed by the Loungers design team into the group’s signature “home from home” style, featuring eclectic interiors and relaxed surroundings. The name “Morio”, meaning “sea”, is a nod to the Lounge’s coastal location at Nell’s Point.

Morio Lounge will serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks throughout the day, alongside dedicated kids’, gluten free and vegan menus.

Families will also be catered for with books, games, colouring materials, high chairs and baby changing facilities available for younger visitors.

Loungers says the venue is also intended to become a community hub, hosting everything from business meetings and book clubs to parent and baby groups, knitting circles and creative workshops.
