Community groups are teaming up with Caerphilly County Borough Council to bring to life a new vision for library services.

A wide range of local groups have expressed their interest in hosting a new community outreach service, with discussions being held with schools, churches and various other venues throughout the Caerphilly borough.

These talks follow the Cabinet’s recent approval of a strategic library vision, which includes plans to close several sites. In response, the Council is not only expanding its outreach services but also calling on the community to help secure the future of some of the buildings set for closure. Some groups have already shown interest in taking over buildings, and they will be supported through the community asset transfer process.

Cllr Carol Andrews, Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said, “We really value our library service, but the financial pressures we’re facing mean we need to act now to create a sustainable library model for the future. We promised to work with communities to find new ways to deliver the service, and we’re excited to see this progress.”
