Caerphilly County Borough Council approves transformative Placemaking Plans for Bargoed and Blackwood which will provide a blueprint for further investment and regeneration activity in both towns.

The Placemaking plans have been developed with support from Welsh Government and aim to revitalise the high streets, support local businesses, and enhance public spaces in both communities.

The Council held a series of community workshops in both towns with residents and local representatives, to help shape the plans and ensure the vision reflects local priorities and aspirations.

The placemaking plans will serve as vital frameworks to help secure external funding and guide regeneration efforts over the coming years.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration & Transformation said, “As a Council, we’ve committed nearly £1 million from our reserves to bring these Placemaking Plans forward. They represent a real opportunity to breathe new life into both towns and attract much-needed investment.

We want to see positive momentum in all our town centres. With these Placemaking Plans, we’re setting the foundations to create opportunity and build stronger, more prosperous communities in Bargoed and Blackwood. I hope there will be a positive reaction from residents towards the new plans.”

The placemaking plans are part of the Council’s broader strategy to regenerate town centres, improve the local economy and create vibrant, sustainable places for residents and visitors. This commitment aligns with the Welsh Government’s vision of creating sustainable, prosperous communities across Wales.
