Swansea is all set for a brilliant, colourful and free weekend of top class art exhibitions, events and much more besides.

October 11 and 12 will see a packed line-up of free events taking place in venues across the city in a vibrant two-day celebration of local, national and international talent headlined by Michael Sheen and Russell T Davies.

The weekend promises a mix of programming including more than 100 hours of thought-provoking exhibitions, engaging bookable workshops, live music and performance showcasing diverse local talent and international artists alike.

This year’s highlight acts include new media artists Limbic Cinema, whose monolithic ‘Vessels’ can be found along Oxford Street and internationally-acclaimed artist Luke Jerram’s large-scale installation Helios, a stunning spectacle located in Swansea Minster. Both artists’ work touches on themes of humanity’s relationship with the sun, light and worship.

Those lucky enough to have secured tickets for two already sold-out events will join actor and Artistic Director of Welsh National Theatre, Michael Sheen and celebrated folk singer songwriter Martyn Joseph for an intimate evening of entertainment in the Dylan Thomas Theatre.

Over in The Pop Up, Creative Swansea will be hosting an ‘In Conversation’ event with celebrated Welsh writer and producer Russell T Davies OBE for a wide-ranging conversation about his groundbreaking career across television, theatre, and storytelling.

Swansea Arts Weekend will showcase an abundance of Welsh talent and opportunities for residents and visitors to express their own artistic identities.

Budding little creatives will love Ren Wolfe’s Rahh! Tigers & Dragons: Costume and Dress-Up while adult audiences may prefer a joyous mix of drag, burlesque, comedy and performance art with a BSL-interpreted performance of Queertawe’s Cabaret.

Photography fans can capture Swansea’s iconic landmarks with photographer Saba Humer or if you fancy a laugh make sure you book tickets for Steffan Alun & Friends, fresh off the back of their successes at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Orchard Street Stage will host a fantastic, diverse line-up of Welsh bands and artists including reggae sensation Aleighcia Scott and the genre-defying, twin-fronted group NOOKEE.

The festival also shines a spotlight on international talent, including German artist Doris Graf and Nigerian-born Igbo dancer Ifemelumma Nweri.

Councillor Elliott King, Cabinet Member for Culture, Human Rights & Equalities at Swansea Council, said: “Residents and visitors are in for a spectacular experience at Swansea Arts Weekend. It’s fantastic to see creatives from Swansea and beyond gathering to bring such a diverse collection of talent and celebration of art to our city.”
