Visitors to Pontypridd are advised about a road closure at various town centre streets on Sunday, for essential works relating to the ongoing M&S site development.

Whilst this closure applies to vehicles, all pedestrian accesses will be maintained and businesses in the retail area are open as usual.

Redevelopment of the former M&S/Dorothy Perkins site started last year, and contractor Horan Construction Ltd is on course to complete the work as planned in spring 2026.

The ‘riverside plaza’ project will create a welcoming public space with greenery, small food and drink kiosks, and open views of the River Taff that haven’t been seen from the town in more than 100 years. It is a key project in the Southern Gateway vision for Pontypridd, within the Council’s Placemaking Plan.

On Sunday, February 8, a temporary road closure is needed to install a new water supply connection to the site, running from the existing main along Taff Street.

The work will begin from 8am and will include road closures at sections of Taff Street, Mill Street, High Street, and Market Street.

An alternative route for motorists is via Crossbrook Street, Gelliwastad Road, Catherine Street and Sardis Road.

Please note that access will only be allowed to premises as far as the northern junction of Taff Street with Market Street. Vehicles will be able to proceed via Market Street and Church Street to the southern side of the closure. Access through the closure area cannot be maintained for emergency service vehicles.

The works will be completed on Sunday, with the road closures lifted upon completion later in the day.
