Road closures will be in place in Cardiff city centre for Wales’ home fixtures in the Guinness Men’s Six Nations Championship 2026, Cardiff Council has confirmed.
Restrictions will operate around the Principality Stadium on health and safety grounds for all three matches.
- For Wales versus France on Sunday February 15, with kick off at 3.10pm, roads will close from 11am until 7.15pm.
- For Wales versus Scotland on Saturday February 21, with kick off at 4.40pm, closures will run from 12.30pm until 9pm.
- For Wales versus Italy on Saturday March 14, also kicking off at 4.40pm, roads will again be closed from 12.30pm until 9pm.
Motorists are being warned that the M4 motorway is expected to be very busy on match days. Fans are urged to plan ahead and consider using the park and ride at the car park by the Vindico Arena on International Drive in the Sports Village, CF11 0JS.
Up to date traffic information is available on the Traffic Wales website and its social media channels.
Those attending matches are advised to arrive early and to check the prohibited items list at principalitystadium.wales, particularly the bag policy, before travelling.
From 7am on each match day, Scott Road and Park Street will close to allow preparation at Gate 5 and to protect queuing supporters.
A full city centre road closure will then operate, including Kingsway between North Road and Duke Street, Cowbridge Road East between Cathedral Road and Westgate Street, and Tudor Street between Clare Road and Wood Street, with access for residents and traders via Fitzhammon Embankment. Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street will also be restricted with resident access maintained.
Duke Street, Castle Street, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road will be closed in their entirety.
Station Terrace and Guildford Street from Newport Road to Churchill Way will be reserved for buses only to ensure reliable access to satellite stops. Penarth Road will close 30 minutes before the end of each match and for up to an hour after the final whistle to protect rail passengers.
Access to parts of the Civic Centre will be controlled throughout the day for event parking, limited commuter parking and private car parks, affecting King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.
Great Western Railway will operate additional trains from Cardiff Central to Swansea, Newport, Bristol and London, although services immediately after matches are expected to be extremely busy and a queuing system will operate outside the station.
Transport for Wales will also provide extra capacity where possible. Cardiff Queen Street station will be closed for the first two fixtures except for accessible travel and Cardiff Bay passengers. The Cardiff Bus Interchange will close in line with road restrictions.
Park and ride buses from the Sports Village will drop off at Tresillian Way. For the France match the car park opens at 9.30am with the last bus from the city at 6pm. For the Scotland and Italy games the last bus will leave at 7.30pm. The cost is £15 and cash only.
Event day parking will be available at the Civic Centre and Sophia Gardens, costing £20 for cars and £30 for coaches. Both sites open at 8am and close at midnight.
Local bus services will be diverted during closures and passengers are advised to check operator websites for details. National Express coaches will continue to use Sophia Gardens.
Cyclists will still be able to use cycleways within the closure area, although riders are asked to take care due to large crowds. The restrictions apply to motor vehicles only.
City centre car parks, including St David’s, John Lewis, Capitol and NCP sites, will remain available. Disabled drivers are encouraged to use Sophia Gardens where dedicated spaces are provided.
The St Mary Street taxi rank will close in line with each match day road closure.
