Pembroke Town Councillors and County Council Leader Cllr Jon Harvey have visited the new Henry Tudor Centre in South Quay, Pembroke to see the work in progress.

Cllr Gareth Jones, Cllr Rose Blackburn and Cllr Jonathan Grimes, joined by Cllr Harvey and Pembroke Town Clerk Suzie Thomas, had a guided tour of the building that is due to open in Spring 2027.

The exciting new centre will tell the story of Henry Tudor, son of Pembroke, his Welsh ancestry and his impact on our national story, Welsh culture and our wider British heritage.

Cllr Harvey, Leader of Pembrokeshire County Councillor, said: “It is encouraging to see the new Henry Tudor Centre taking shape after the time and effort put in by the Pembroke community and organisations, backed by Pembrokeshire County Council support.

“The restored derelict buildings will also house a new library and community café, and a healthcare, social services and supported employment facility in the adjoining premises. This is a key development for Pembroke’s Town Centre rejuvenation.”

The Henry Tudor Trust will operate the new heritage centre and it is expected to receive around 30,000 visitors a year. The Trust have worked with Pembrokeshire County Council for many years to bring this to fruition, and work began on site in earnest in summer 2024.

Cllr Gareth Jones commented; “It is an impressive space that will do justice in showcasing the unique heritage of Pembroke and its connection to Henry Tudor. The new centre will be a great draw for visitors, adding to Pembroke’s excellent heritage offer. It will also create a vibrant hub for learning, volunteering and community engagement in the heart of Pembroke.”

Additional funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund will provide a one-year Community Programme Coordinator post to deliver a vibrant calendar of events and activities at the new Centre, a volunteering programme and educational resources for schools.
