Taff Trail reopens after major storm damage repairs

A section of the popular Taff Trail reopened in time for the Easter weekend following the completion of major repair works.

Taff Trail between Trallwn and Cilfynydd largely reopened after undergoing emergency works to repair significant storm damage.

The 1.5km stretch, which runs from Ty Isaf railway bridge near Fletchers Field allotment to a point west of Ysgol Bro Taf near Cilfynydd Recreation Ground and Albion Industrial Estate, had been closed while the work was carried out. The section has now permanently reopened to the public.

The scheme, which began in autumn 2025, involved a range of improvements aimed at making the route more resilient to future extreme weather. This included diverting an 80-metre section of the path further away from the river.

Two new footbridges were also constructed, alongside embankment protection works and the removal of trees considered to pose a safety risk.

Contractors Edwards Diving Services carried out the work, with the council thanking local residents for their patience during the disruption, particularly after a short extension to the completion timeline towards the end of the project.

Recent activity on site included resurfacing the footpath, installing handrails on the new bridges, completing concrete works, reinstating access tracks and removing a temporary bridge used during construction.

While the route has reopened, some minor finishing work remained, including activity on two headwalls. Residents were advised they may notice contractors in the area, with the council confirming it would provide updates if any further access restrictions were required.
