School meals provider serving 14,000 pupils daily targets wider growth

NEWydd Cleaning and Catering – one of North Wales’s largest providers of school meals and community services – is expanding its Board as it enters an ambitious new phase of regional growth.

The organisation, which employs more than 350 people and prepares up to 14,000 freshly cooked school meals each day, is moving beyond its heartland to extend services into Cheshire and the Wirral.

To support that growth, the Board is inviting experienced leaders to join them as Non-Executive Directors.

Alongside its school meals operation, NEWydd is a Local Authority Trading company of Flintshire County Council and delivers professional cleaning services and essential community-focused provision for vulnerable adults, making it a vital part of daily life across the region.

With deep roots in the county and a growing reputation over the border, the organisation is committed to sustainable, locally sourced food and to improving school dining environments – from the quality of the meal on the plate to the experience of the dining room itself.

Steve Jones, Managing Director of NEWydd, said: “As NEWydd grows, we want to bring in leaders who can help us stay sharp, accountable and true to our purpose.

“We have built something that genuinely matters to communities across North Wales, and we want the Board to reflect that ambition. Our goal is to expand what we offer while holding firm to the values and standards that define us.”

NEWydd is seeking individuals with senior leadership experience from the public, private or third sectors.

Candidates with expertise in education, finance, human resources, operations, marketing or governance are particularly encouraged to apply.

Board members will play a central role in guiding long-term strategy, strengthening governance and ensuring the organisation remains responsive to the communities it serves, from supporting families through healthy eating initiatives to improving outcomes for vulnerable adults.

Rob Lawton, Business Operations Manager, said: “NEWydd has always been about people, whether that’s the children we feed, the communities we serve, or the teams delivering our services every day.

“As we grow, bringing new voices and perspectives onto the Board will be essential in helping us stay innovative, responsive and true to our values.”

Tanya Wood, Chair of the Board, added: “It has been one of the most rewarding roles of my career – offering both professional growth and the opportunity to make a genuine difference in people’s lives.”

Current Board members Craig Macleod and Nigel Roberts echo that sentiment, describing the role as “inspiring” and urging others with relevant expertise to put themselves forward.
