Comedy fans in Cardiff are set for a nostalgic treat this summer as Fawlty Towers makes its way to the stage at the Wales Millennium Centre.
Fawlty Towers – The Play will run at the venue from June 23 to June 27, 2026, as part of a major UK and Ireland tour following two sold out West End seasons.
Written and adapted by comedy legend John Cleese, the stage production brings together three classic episodes from the original sitcom, including “The Hotel Inspector”, “The Germans” and “Communication Problems”, alongside a brand new finale.
The show stars Danny Bayne as the chaotic hotel owner Basil Fawlty, alongside Joanne Clifton as Polly and Paul Nicholas as The Major.
Also returning from the West End production are Hemi Yeroham as Manuel and Mia Austen as Sybil.
Originally broadcast on BBC Two in 1975, Fawlty Towers remains one of Britain’s most celebrated sitcoms, despite only 12 episodes ever being made. The series was inspired by real life hotel owner Donald Sinclair, whose famously rude behaviour towards guests fascinated Cleese during a stay at the Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay.
The production has already received glowing reviews during its West End run, with critics describing it as “the funniest show in town” and “as good as comedy gets”.
The story follows Basil Fawlty as he desperately attempts to impress suspected hotel inspectors while juggling demanding guests, a group of Germans, the famously difficult Mrs Richards and his ever watchful wife Sybil, all with very little help from Manuel.
