Neath Port Talbot Council is inviting tenders to operate a new visitor facilities hub in Pontneddfechan, as part of a £7.5 million investment to support sustainable tourism in Waterfall Country.

The development, scheduled for completion in summer 2026, will include a high quality 8-bedroom family friendly visitor accommodation alongside a café or community shop, a 136‑space car park with electric vehicle charging, a children’s play area, and modern public toilets.

Pontneddfechan is located at the heart of Waterfall Country, which welcomes more than 300,000 visitors each year. While tourism brings significant economic benefits, it has also placed pressure on local infrastructure and communities, with issues including congestion, parking demand and environmental impacts.

The new visitor facilities are designed to manage visitor numbers more effectively, improve safety, protect the surrounding landscapes and encourage longer, higher-quality visits that benefit the local economy.

The successful operator will manage the site under a long-term lease and will be required to reinvest a proportion of parking income back into local community projects which support local infrastructure and community wellbeing.

This project is a key part of the Council’s wider Destination Management Plan, aiming to balance a thriving visitor economy with the needs of residents and the protection of one of Wales’ most important natural landscapes.

This project has been funded by the Local Regeneration Fund via the UK Government.
