The Pembrokeshire Learning Centre proudly celebrated the opening of its brand-new library recently, marking an exciting milestone for students and staff alike.

Designed to inspire a love of reading, the library plays a key role in fostering a strong reading culture within the PLC, encouraging students of all ages and abilities to explore literature and develop lifelong learning habits.

Stocked with hundreds of new books spanning a wide range of genres, the library offers something for everyone and continues to grow through a student request system, allowing new titles to be added based on individual interests.

In addition, the library supports learning through structured guided reading sessions, including the use of the Fusion reading strategy, ensuring students are supported in developing comprehension and critical thinking skills while enjoying access to an excellent and ever-expanding collection.

Assistant Headteacher Michelle Lewis-Jones said: “The event was exceptionally well attended, reflecting the enthusiasm across the centre for this vibrant new space. It also serves as a welcoming hub during lunchtimes, providing a calm and engaging environment for students to relax and read.

“As part of our commitment to strengthening literacy, we also deliver the Essential Letters and Sounds programme, further embedding our new reading culture and supporting students in developing strong foundational reading skills.”

Local County Councillor and member of the Pembrokeshire  Learning Centre Management  Committee, Cllr Simon Hancock added: “I am delighted  to see the opening of the new library. This will be a safe and inclusive space where the young people can access a wide range of books and other learning materials. I am sure it will be a really popular facility at the PLC judging from the comments from the young people I spoke to at the opening.”
