Christmas came early today for a group of lucky school-children at St Fagans, National History Museum, as a hundred pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Treganna attended a pupil premiere or Pluen Eira, S4C’s prestigious film for Christmas.
[aoa id=”1″]This year is the first time the Into Film charity has arranged special Welsh medium screenings, as part of the Into Film Festival. The historic event was organised to bring a special close to the Festival. This is the world’s biggest youth festival, with screenings across the whole of the United Kingdom. As part of the festival, 182 films were shown in 42 cinemas across Wales, from the 7th to the 23rd of November.[/aoa]
According to Non Stevens, head of Into Film Cymru:
“This is a magical ending to a special Festival. The purpose of the Festival is to give teachers, students and others the opportunity to see, for themselves, the power of film and highlight how our work provides opportunities that positively impact on the personal and academic development of 5-19 year olds. We are actively promoting film as a powerful educational tool. We’ve been endeavouring to hold a pupil premiere for Welsh language pupils for many years now, and I’m very grateful to Boom Cymru and S4C for realising our dream. We’re now calling on schools to take advantage of our work throughout the year.”
S4C’s Content Commissioner Amanda Rees said:
“S4C is proud to develop its partnership with Into Film and to support this pupil premiere at St Fagans. We are working with Into Film Cymru to take Welsh language content to schools and film clubs. We know that watching films of this kind means increased levels of literacy, numeracy and digital literacy Having the opportunity to watch films in Welsh is particularly important.“We are very proud of the film Pluen Eira that traces the history of Clive and Rhi, and their first Christmas with their new son Frank, who is eleven years old. This is a lovely family movie that is sure to bring a smile to the face and a tear to the eye.”

“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to show S4C’s Christmas film Pluen Eira in this lecture theatre. It’s great to see young people using and enjoying the lecture theatre and new education spaces that are part of the new developments on site this year. “
The film will be shown on S4C on Christmas Day at 6.30pm.
