Wales is set for a mixed week of weather, with sunshine and showers dominating the forecast before temperatures could climb into the mid-20s by next weekend.

According to the Met Office, Monday began on a wet note across much of Wales, with spells of heavy rain and gusty winds affecting many areas during the morning.

However, conditions are expected to improve through the afternoon as the rain clears eastwards, allowing for a much drier and brighter end to the day with sunny spells developing across the country.

Despite the brighter conditions, temperatures will remain below average for the time of year, with highs reaching around 16°C.

Monday night is expected to remain largely dry in eastern parts of Wales, although scattered showers in the west will gradually spread further east overnight. Temperatures will fall to around 7°C, making for a notably chilly June night.

Tuesday will bring a familiar mix of sunshine and scattered showers, with some of the showers potentially turning heavy and thundery in places. Temperatures are again expected to peak at around 16°C.

Looking further ahead, the unsettled theme continues through midweek.

Wednesday is forecast to bring further sunshine and showers, while a spell of wetter and windier weather is expected to move across Wales on Thursday. Showers are then likely on Friday, although conditions could become drier later in the day.

There are signs of a significant change as the weekend approaches.

Early indications suggest warmer air could arrive across Wales, with temperatures potentially reaching the low to mid-20s. Current forecasts indicate highs of around 22°C on Saturday, rising further to approximately 25°C on Sunday.

While confidence in the longer-range forecast remains lower than in the short term, many parts of Wales could finally enjoy a taste of summer after a week dominated by cool temperatures, showers and unsettled conditions.
