After days of intense heat, Wales is set for a welcome change in the weather this week, with cooler temperatures, fresher conditions and plenty of dry weather expected before warmer air returns for the weekend.
Monday will bring a much cooler start across the country, with a dry day expected for most areas. Fair weather cloud and sunny spells will develop throughout the day, while light winds should make it feel pleasant in the sunshine. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach around 20°C.
Cloud will gradually increase from the west overnight into Tuesday, with a little light rain possible over western hills. Overnight temperatures will remain slightly milder, with lows of around 12°C.
Tuesday is expected to begin rather cloudy before brighter spells develop. Frequent showers are then forecast to form during the day, with some becoming heavy. There is also the possibility of thunder across northern parts of Wales. Temperatures will reach around 19°C.
Looking further ahead, Wednesday through to Friday is expected to bring a mostly dry and settled spell of weather, with bright or sunny intervals. A spell of rain is likely to move through on Thursday, but temperatures are expected to remain close to average before gradually rising again.
There is good news for anyone hoping for warmer conditions to return, with temperatures potentially climbing back into the mid twenties by the weekend, bringing a more summery feel once again after the recent cooler spell.
