A school in Tonypandy is aiming for bonus points on the rugby field after receiving a new kit donation from Principality Building Society.

Students from Ysgol Nantgwyn in both the junior and senior teams were presented with their new kit by Principality’s Tonypandy branch manager Andrew Williams.

Ysgol Nantgwyn and Wales’ largest building society have forged strong links through the Business Class programme, a Business in the Community scheme which aims to develop business skills in young people.

As well as providing the future Halfpennys of Wales with their fresh kits, Principality colleagues from the region have spent time with Ysgol Nantgwyn students to provide financial education lessons and teach skills which will help them in life beyond school. This has included teaching the students the importance of having savings and how to effectively manage their pocket money.

Andrew Williams, Principality Building Society’s Tonypandy Branch Manager, said:

“Our commitment to the community in Tonypandy goes beyond the relationships we build with customers in branch.  We’re proud to support our local schools by providing financial education lessons and kitting out Ysgol Nantgwyn’s keen rugby squad. Hopefully these new kits will act as a lucky charm on the pitch in games to come.”

Kirsty Retallick, Headteacher at Ysgol Nantgwyn, said:

“Our rugby teams are so excited to get onto the field in their new kit, giving them a big boost in training and matches. Principality’s support for our sports teams and through its financial education work is hugely appreciated as ever and we’re looking forward to growing our partnership further in the future.”
